Ottery was  established  round about  1904 as a residential housing suburb of Cape Town. The main reason houses for sale in Ottery became popular was that the railway line from Maitland reached Ottery on 1 February 1904. It was originally built and operated as a private metrorail line, and was acquired by the Cape Government on 1 July 1908.

Ottery properties are situated to the east of Wynberg with the  M5 Highway and Royal Cape Golf Links Club  forming it’s western border, Strandfontein Road the eastern border, Grassy Park houses to the south and Lansdowne and Wetton property to the north .

Ottery is an extremely centrally located southern suburbs area with the M5, which becomes Prince George Drive to it’s west. The M5  provides easy access to areas such as Cape Town and Kenilworth  to the north, and Muizenberg and the  beautiful False Bay beaches to the south.

Ottery Road is the main road  running  through ottery and eventually meets Rosmead Avenue. Ottery Road runs past Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket, Makro,  Ottery China Town, McDonalds Restaurant, Ottery Farm Stall, Youngsfield, Ottery Fire Station, Ottery Toyota, Engen, Ottery Value Centre etc.

It joins the M5 with Strandfontein Road  which eventually becomes Jan Smuts Drive. This road creates an easy connection between  Ottery  and areas such as Grassy Park, Strandfontein and Mitchells Plain to the south, and areas like Lansdowne, Rondebosch East and Athlone to the north.

The area also has good public transport such as the Golden Arrow bus service, the Cape Town taxi service network and Ottery train station.

Ottery houses for sale represents exceptional value for money at bargain house prices. Freestanding houses make up about 75% of the Ottery property market. They are typically medium to large size and spacious properties. Typically plot sizes are around 500 square metres and houses are typically about 120 to 250 square metres. With these houses selling for around R700 000 to R1 000 000 it represents house values that you will not find anywhere else in Cape Town.

There are cheaper options available for irst time house buyers like semi detached houses. this accounts for about 10% of the Ottery property and  range from about 50-100 square metres and sell for between R450000 to about R700 000. These houses are generally smaller houses  on smaller plots of about 250 square metre.

Apartments or flats for sale in Ottery make up about 15% of the property market and they range from about R350 000 to R450 000.
